Drama

 Staff
The pupils are taught by the Head of Drama, Miss Woodward, a Performing Arts Specialist.

Facilities
Drama lessons take place in a professional Drama studio, equipped with lighting and sound facilities. The Drama Department has a vast selection of set, costume and props to aid lessons and productions.

KS3
To ease the transition period from Year 6, the pupils in Year 7 will be integrated into Hurstmere via team bonding methods to help develop their interpersonal skills.  They will explore a range of schemes of work in Drama alongside their communication development.  Regular homework and self assessment will form a large part of the Year 7 progression in this subject.

Pupils in Year 7 and 8 will spend one hour a week in the Drama studio working on a variation of schemes of work. A few of the areas covered and explored are Shakespeare, Storytelling, Theatre in Education, Dance, Problem Solving Drama and Technical Theatre. All students are assessed on each scheme of work, in their practical and group skills, throughout the year. Homework is set fortnightly in KS3.

KS4
GCSE Drama with the EDEXCEL exam board is a popular option for Years 10 and 11 to study. Pupils will learn how to act, direct, write and produce theatre, enabling them to develop their social and theatrical skills. Pupils will submit coursework, worth 60% of their final grade and will then stage a performance for the practical exam, which is worth 40% of the final grade. Regular homework is set in Year 10 and 11 to aid class room learning and coursework completion.
