Heartstart Initiative Course
Mrs Anand and I are very proud to announce that eighteen year 7 students were successful in completing the Heartstart initiative course and recently received their certificate in their assembly. This involved students giving up their own time and attending four one hour session after school before the Easter holidays to learn Emergency Life Support Skills (ELS). The sessions included how to deal with an unconscious casualty, cardiac arrest, suspected heart attack, choking, serious bleeding and the use of an AED
Every year there are 60,000 cardiac arrests outside of hospitals in the UK and each minute without CPR and defibrillation the chances of survival reduce by 10%. Hurstmere’s Heartstart project is an initiative provided with the help of the British Heart Foundation which teaches students what to do in a life threatening emergency.
